Holotech Records sets foot in the land of Makossa
This is news that will shake up the Cameroonian music industry. Holotech Records, the powerful music division of Mason Ewing Corporation, the American holding company based in Los Angeles, has just appointed its very first official Artistic Director for Cameroon. And the choice was anything but random.
His name is Jacques Clément SOMB ILOPPA, but the Cameroonian music world knows him by one name only: Shamir.
43 years old, married, a family man, and a passion for music that has run through his veins since childhood. Many Cameroonians still remember hearing him on the radio, alongside acclaimed artists, and thinking to themselves: that man has something special.
They were right.
WHEN LOS ANGELES LOOKS TOWARD YAOUNDE AND DOUALA
Behind this historic decision stand two names. On one side, Mason Ewing, CEO of Mason Ewing Corporation, producer, composer, visionary, and a globally recognized figure in the world of art and music. On the other, Dany Brown, a Franco-Cameroonian producer and composer, the man behind the scenes who knows both shores, America and the 237.
Together, they decided to make Cameroon the first international expansion territory for Holotech Records. And to do that, they needed the best man on the ground. They chose Shamir.
Mason Ewing, whose attachment to Cameroon is deep and sincere, shared the roots of that love:
“I will never forget the ones who made me love and dance.”
He evokes the giants of African musical identity: Grace Decca, Ben Decca, Dina Bell, Salé John, Prince Eyango, Petit Pays… Makossa.
Music that transcends generations and borders. His ambition is to bring that warmth to the United States. And for that, he needs Shamir.
ALBINISM: A CONDITION, NOT A DEFINITION
If Cameroun Liberty chooses to address this subject, it is because it must. Not to stigmatize. But to celebrate.
Shamir lives with albinism, a rare genetic condition caused by insufficient production of melanin, the natural pigment that gives color to the skin, hair and eyes. Albinism is a rare, non-communicable and hereditary condition that exists worldwide, regardless of ethnic background or gender.
Melanin protects the skin from ultraviolet rays and contributes to the development of the visual nervous system. It is not a choice. It is not a curse. It is a medical condition, like so many others.

In sub-Saharan Africa, people with albinism are still far too often subjected to discrimination, mockery, and sometimes even violence.
The 2026 International Albinism Awareness Day calls on us to fight prejudice, amplify the voices of people with albinism, and promote environments built on equality, safety, and inclusion.

Shamir has chosen to respond in the only language he masters perfectly: music.
And Mason Ewing, a blind artist and producer who has conquered the world of art, was the first to see in Shamir not a difference, but a strength.

Shamir is not an artistic director by default. He is one by vocation, experience, and natural gift.
In the industry, they say he has “gold in his fingers,” an absolute ear for spotting diamonds in the rough before the world ever sees them.
His mission at Holotech Records will include:
- discovering new Cameroonian musical talents
- guiding artistic development
- negotiating partnerships with local recording studios
- amplifying artists across media, radio, TV, and digital platforms
In other words: if you have talent in Cameroon, Shamir becomes your gateway to the United States.
A MESSAGE TO THE ARTISTS OF THE 237
Every Cameroonian artist wishing to reach the international stage and connect with Holotech Records and Mason Ewing Corporation must now go through the official Artistic Director in Cameroon: Shamir, Jacques Clément SOMB ILOPPA.
Through him, a musical bridge is being built between the 237 and Los Angeles. Between Makossa and the world.
